But we are a community, not a sailing company. There are no professional organizers or fixed schedules behind the scenes. Everything is put together by members in their free time: someone suggests an adventure, others join, and together we make it happen.
Most ideas, plans and last-minute sailing opportunities first appear in our WhatsApp community. So if you want to stay up to date, meet the crew or propose an adventure of your own, the best way is to join us there.

How the community works
Decentralized authority. Sailing Community Belgium brings together people who want to sail and are looking for others to sail with. Authority and organization within the community are decentralized. We do not have a board, a central organizer or a permanent team deciding which events should happen. The community itself does not create an official programme. Individual members come up with sailing ideas, organize them independently and invite other people to join.
Basically, the community gives sailing people a place to find each other. Somebody might want to rent a boat for a day, practise a particular skill, spend a weekend sailing or plan a much bigger trip. They can share the idea with the group, see who is interested and start putting a crew together. An event happens because somebody wants to make it happen, rather than because it was planned or approved by a central authority.
Joining or organizing an adventure
You can take part by joining something that another member is already organizing. The organizer will normally share the basic plan, including the location, dates, boat, expected costs and any experience requirements. If the adventure sounds good to you and there is still space, you can ask questions and join the crew.
You can also organize something yourself. Any member can propose a sailing-related activity, and it can be as simple or ambitious as you want. You do not need to wait for an official event or ask the community for permission. You just need an idea, a reasonably clear plan and a willingness to take the lead. Other members can then join you and help work out the details.
From spontaneous day sails to bigger adventures
A lot of our day sails come together quite quickly. Somebody finds an available boat, looks at the weather and posts the idea in the group. Sometimes the first message appears only a few days before the event. These trips are usually quite easy to organize and are a good way to get on the water, meet new people and see how the community works.
We have also started organizing more complicated adventures that require planning much further in advance. For a week-long trip, boats may be booked six months earlier, people may need to arrange flights and several boats can sail together. We live aboard, share the experience as a group and spend a proper week exploring somewhere new. The scale is different, but the idea behind it is still the same. Somebody proposes the adventure, interested people join and the participants make it happen together.
Every event is organized independently
The person or people proposing an event are responsible for organizing that particular event and communicating the plan clearly. This usually includes explaining the expected costs, payment deadlines, cancellation arrangements, crew responsibilities and what is included. These details can be different for every adventure, especially when boats, flights or accommodation need to be booked in advance.
Taking the lead on one event does not make somebody an official representative of the whole community. They are simply a member organizing a sailing adventure for a particular group of people. Participants should read the information, ask questions when something is unclear and understand the arrangements before committing or paying.
What does sailing cost?
People often assume that sailing is very expensive. It certainly can be, but it does not always have to be. When a crew shares the cost of renting a boat, travelling and buying supplies, the price per person can be much more accessible than many people expect.
There is no standard community price because we are not selling sailing trips or packaged holidays. Every event has its own costs, depending on the boat, destination, duration and number of people joining. Here are some real examples from our community:
